Background
The upright pulleys should be cleaned at a regular, weekly interval or every 50,000 feet climbed. Brushing the pulleys reduces the risk of squeaks resulting from small debris which can lodge in the pulley teeth.

Procedure
- Step onto the machine as you normally would to begin a climb. Center the handles and pedals so you’re standing level.
- Position the handles at shoulder height by pulling the lever and sliding the handles into position.
CAUTION The next steps require working inside the upright track. Keep body parts and clothing clear of the track opening while performing this maintenance action. - Place the brush onto the bottom of the right-hand upright’s upper pulley. The brush bristles should be pushed into the root of the pulley’s teeth.
- While holding the brush in position and your left-hand on the left-hand side’s handle, begin climbing and complete 5 strokes about 12 inches in length.
- Repeat the process for the lower pulley as shown in the above image, positioning the brush on the top of the pulley.
- Repeat steps 3-6 for the left-hand upright.
